General
Information: Mandi state was founded by Ajmer Sen 191th descendant
of Raja Bahu Sen, 1527-AD. With the merger of Mandi and Suket two
princely states, Mandi was declared as the fourth district of Himachal
on 15th April, 1948.
MANDI : 750 m. : Situated at a distance of 150 km from Shimla
on both banks of river Beas and its tributary-Saketi, the town is
famous for its temples and is surrounded by hills on three sides.
This thickly populated town is famous for its large number of temples
made of stone with beautiful carvings having Shikhara style dome structure.
Shivratri fair in Mandi is celebrated as a state level function
with a great pomp and show attracting crowds from all over in the
big ground called 'Paddal'. Recreational activities, political
functions and cricket matches of Ranji Trophy level are also organised
here.

Rewalsar
: 1,350 m. Rewalsar Lake at a distance of 29 km from Mandi on
a motorable road is famous as a piligrim centre. The hindu temples,
a sikh gurdwara and a buddhist monastery coexist here in perfect
harmony around the lake. On surrounding hilltops of Rewalsar town
there are a few more picturesque lakes . |

Janjehii
: 2,410 m. Janjehli at a distance of 67 km from Mandi is a paradise
for trekkers, hikers, and naturalists. Many treks to Shikari Devi
temple 2,850 m., Kamru Nag lake 3,600 m., famous for a big festival
held in June annually and into Karsog valley branch off from here
through dense forests full of wild life. It is believed that Pandavas
stayed in these hills during exile. |

Barot: 1,785 m. Barot, at a distance of 20 km from Joginder
nagar connected by a bridle path and a ropewary, is a beautiful
picnic spot on the bank of river Uhl. Icy cold waters of this
river-a tributary of river Beas-has plenty of trout for fishing
pleasures of the anglers. It is motorable and accessible from
Mandi town. A rest house is available here.

Joginder
Nagar : 1,500 m. 165 km from Pathankot is situated on Pathankot-Kullu
NH. Known for hydro electric power project fed by Uhl river reservoir
at Barot, the water rushes down through penstock pipes covering
a distance of I Km.The generated hydro electricity is mainly being
used by Punjab state on account of an historical agreement between
Raja of Mandi and Punjab. |
| Chindi
: 1,850 m. Chindi is a small village known for its scenic beauty,
open vast valley offering beautiful sunset and newly planted apple
orchards.A trek through woods of assorted forests leads to Shikari
Devi 2,850 m. famous for wild life. From Chindi one can go to the
town of Karsog 12 km away and visit to an ancient wooden Mamieshwar
Mahadev temple at Mamel and Kamaksha Devi temple at Kaw is rewarding.
From Chindi one can also visit famous Nag temple Mahunag (snake
temple) 10 km away on a bifurcation from Dharmour village on main
road leading to Shimla. |

Tattapani
: 656m Tattapani at a distance of 53 km from Shimla on way to
Mandi via Mashobra is famous for hot water sulpur springs bubbling
on the banks of river Satlej. Thse water are curative for skin diseases.
Four km away from Tattapani is a cave temple dedicated to Lord shiva
at Saraur on a mettled link road. |
