General
Information: Bilaspur a princely hill
state known as Kahlur founded in 900 AD by Raja Bir Chand a Chandel prince.
In 1930 AD it witnessed Bhoomi Bandobast Abhiyan. It was the last hill
state to merge with Himachal i.e. on 4th July 1954.

Kandror Bridge
: At a distance of 22 km from Bilaspur on way to Hamirpur is
a remarkable bridge on river Sutlej know as the bridge in Asia.
It is a good spot for fishing and picnic.
Markand
: Markand
at a distance of 25 km from Bilaspur via Ghaghas or Brahmpukhar
is associated with Rishi Markandya who is learnt to have performed
stricktest austerities on his body here. A big fair is held here
annually near a tank which is considered sacred and a dip in its
holy waters is considered to cure infertility and infant diseases.

Naina
Devi : At
a distance of 60 km from Bilaspur this is one of the51 Shaktipeeths.
According to the legend and the common belief Lord Shiva's consort
Sati took Samadhi in the Yog-Agni and left her mortal remains to avenge
an insult to her husband Lord Shiva.Situated on top of a triangular
hill it has a commanding view of the vast plains of Panjab and holy
Gurdwaras of Anandpur Sahib. On the other side one can have the magnificient
view of Gobind Sagar reservoir and the hills with thick forests.
Thousands of piligrims throng this temple during Sarvana Ashtami and
Navratras of Chaitra and Ashwin.the
temple is connected by a ropeway also and is being operated a private
concern. |
