GURU GOBIND SINGH JEE GOVT. College at Paonta Sahib
, the land sanctified by the Holy feet of Great Sikh
Guru Gobind Singh Jee was started in June 1994 to
cater to the long felt need for higher education in
the area. It was formally inaugurated by the then
Chief Minister, Himachal Pradesh, to commemorate the
tercentenary of the birth of the 'Khalsa in 1999.
The
College, which started functioning in an old kandsari
Mill is located at Shubhkhere about 1.5 kms from Paonta
Sahib Bus Stand and cater to the needs of Paonta and
Shillai Tehsils of Sirmaur Districts and also of some
of the adjoining areas of Uttaranchal and Haryana.
The college is now seven years old and imparts instructions
for B.A., B.Sc. and B.Com degree of the H.P. University,
Shimla. When the college started in 1994, the total
number of students in faculties of ARTS, Science and
Commerce was 323 which now, in 2001, stands at 1256.
A new Science Block was built in the year 1995-96.
