Rajeev
Gandhi Memorial Govt. Degree College, Joginder Nagar,
earlier known as Pt.. Amar Nath Samark Mahavidyalaya
came into existence in July, 1989. Then it was taken
over by H.P. Govt. on 4-5-94. The college has within
a short span of 7 years established itself as one of
the best colleges. Eversince its inception this college
has been striving to establish new standards in higher
education.
In
the three faculties of Arts, Science and Commerce twenty
eight teachers are working in addition to the Principal,
a librarian and 13 members in the non-teaching staff.
In the Arts faculty the students have the option to
choose subjects of their choice from eleven subjects
taught in the college.
The
college has been shifted to the new campus, the inauguration
of which was done by the Hon'ble Chief Minister, Sh.
Prem Kumar Dhumal on 4-5-2000. The college subscribes
to about 25 magazines, periodicals, and journals in
addition to 10 daily newspapers.
Our
students are always keen to take part in co-curricular
activities and they have excelled in various events
held at different places. Our college team in group
song stood first and second and bagged the first position
in Mime in the H.P. Youth Festival last year. The students
of this college also won the first prize and Monal Trophy
in debate organised by the Forest Department (wild life)
at Shimla. Besides this declamation and debates and
other academic activities are also organised in the
college. Tutorial groups have also been formed in the
college for the guidance of students.
Two
units of National Service Scheme are functioning in
the college to make students realize their responsibility
to the society.
The
college magazine HAMANKUR was first published in 1995-96
and the fourth issue is out this Year. The college provides
scholarships to various categories of students such
as SC, ST, IRDP and merit etc.
